At this point, it feels like I have some workarounds, so I can deal if I can't get it sorted. Now I'm struggling to recall if this is a new issue or not-maybe it has never been possible to print two sided in Pages or Safari (I mean for me personally, with this printer). Under "Options & Supplies," then the "Options" tab, there are several on/off toggles, but unfortunately non of them pertain to two-sided printing (skip blanks, quiet mode, permit black printing, cassette switching, warning notifications). Not working perfectly, but at least they're consistent.Īlso tried your step-by-step above. At this point, seems like both computers are exactly the same. Still have the option in Word on the older computer-don't have Word on the newer computer so I can't check there. The whole print window looks different, it's missing tabs. I also don't have the two-sided option at all in Pages (on either computer, actually). I went through the CUPS routine again for good measure, with the same results as last time. Conveniently, the Two-Sided option on the Layout screen is still greyed out everywhere. However the print menu looks totally different in Safari-there's no Output Settings tab, and therefore no Binding Edge check box or radio buttons to choose the binding edge. I say sort of, because now it looks like I have the "Output Settings" option when I try to print PDFs, either right from Chrome or if I save and print from Preview.

Actually seems like it sort of worked-which is odd, because it's an older driver for older operating systems (I have High Sierra running, maybe Epson just screwed up the updates). But then, I installed from you link you gave me as well.

Since this is a new setup, this has basically already been done, but I've done it again anyway.

According to Epson ( here), the method to update drivers is to remove the printer, and then re-add. Sorry for all the text, I just wanted to be clear. Two-Sided is still greyed out (listed as off), and I don't have the "Output Settings" tab like I do with my other iMac. I checked just to be sure my new defaults were saving, and they seem to be. What's also interesting is that back on the CUPS page, under the page for the printer in question, it says this: Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in

I tried playing with these in different combinations, but none of them seem to impact the default print drop down menu (from Safari or Pages, whatever). There are several possibly relevant options: "2-sided Printing," (yes/no) which then has a "Binding Edge" drop down just below it with the standard options "Two-Sided Printing," where "long-edge binding" is an option and then a "Duplex Tumble" drop down, which can be switched from "none" to "DuplexNoTumble." Not sure why two-sided is listed twice like that, but there it is. Thanks a ton for the help, I appreciate it. Some threads have mentioned trying to enable a "duplex" option somewhere, but I haven't found that, and I don't think I had to do that on the older iMac. I have attempted due diligence on Google, but I'm coming up empty handed.

Confused about why the print dialog box options would be different between these two computers for the same printer.Īny thoughts would be greatly appreciated. It automatically finds the drivers, so they should be up to date.

The printer is capable of printing two-sided, and has been removed and re-added. Also, the "Two-Sided Printing" option is greyed out under the "Layout" tab. On the new iMac, there is no "Output Settings" tab option in the drop down within the print dialog box. Interestingly, under the "Layout" tab within the print dialog box, the Two-Sided Printing check box is always greyed out. On the older iMac (where double sided printing is fine), I have the option to choose the "Output Settings" dropdown within the print dialog box then I can check "Long-Edge Binding" and everything works out. I also have an older iMac, same version of OSX, and it does double-sided just fine. Struggling to enable two-sided printing on a new iMac.
